"Once there was a tree…and she loved a little boy."

1977. Running and dancing around the great willow tree that canopied my backyard, I sang, “…we must believe in Magic! If you believe in Magic, you have the Universe at your command…” I knew then anything and everything was possible for those who believed. Read more...

big texas sky at sunset
Nature rare uses yellow
Thank another hue;
Saves she all of that for sunsets, -
Prodigal of blue,

Spending scarlet like a woman,
Yellow she affords
Only scantly and selectly,
Like a lover's words.

Doing Your Best

"Doing your best means being true to the deepest thing within you.  It means honoring your heart even if a thousand different voices of fear, doubt, and resistance stand in the way.  Doing your best doesn't have anything to do with living up to other peoples' expectations of you, nor does it involve doing what you've been conditioned to believe is the best.  In other words, if doing your best means that you expect a certain result or act only to get your needs met, then that is less than your best.  Your best is in integrity with the Heart's deepest drive.  Honoring that and choosing to be in integrity is living within the field of spirit, and following the guidance from within.

If we choose to continue to act according to a sense of lack, with expectations, hoping to have some peace of mind, we will continue to feel short-changed by life.  Only when we are honoring what is true within our heart do we see life mirror the beauty of what is within.  It is as if simply by being aligned with the Heart's deepest intent, all action flows forth without impediment.
Doing your best also means being extraordinarily gentle with ourselves, knowing that sometimes the legacy of pain, blame, shame, and ignorance within our minds is strong, and that little by little there is a gradual opening and flowering of the Heart.  To recognize that you are doing your best, and that others are doing their best allows us to soften and relax, trusting in an inherent wisdom and love.  Always doing your best means allowing yourself to fail, allowing yourself the space to be imperfect....which ironically gives rise to a beauty that shatters every limitation.

What a great reminder for all of us, especially parents ~ Happy Mother's Day to all mothers!  Love is so much more than perfection...committing to Love is doing our best."
