Yoga Sutra 1.12

Yoga Sutra 1.12

"The control of (chitta vrittis or mental modifications) is brought about by practice and non-attachment of the mind."--Anand

Yoga is not a faith but rather a practice or willingness to be so detached that you learn from your mistakes rather than making them a habit. Attachment is a desire for ownership. Detachment shows an appreciation for life and things without a desire to own it or look for approval. Detachment is not avoiding life but rather not attaching (basing) your identification on maya, which is the illusion of "name and form". In other words, who you think you are. Avoid seeking security and peace in changeable things.

"The sun is covered by layers of clouds, but remains unaffected by them. The work of the wind is to drive the clouds away and the more the clouds disappear, the more the light of the sun appears. There is no change in the Spirit- it is the Infinite. God alone is eternal; everything else is transitory. He never changes. WE make our own destiny- - The sun shines for the weak and for the strong. All the strength you need lies within you." --Pathways to Joy

Learning some hard lessons along the way,

Melissa
